Joel Shearer
Sound Artist + Co-founder of Chromasonic
Musician, Composer and Sound Artist, Joel Shearer has enjoyed a diverse and prolific, multi-decade career in the music industry. He has collaborated on numerous albums from Alanis Morrisette's Grammy-winning “Jagged Little Pill” to Rhye’s latest release, “Home,” as well as on film scores from the Academy Award nominated “127 Hours” to “The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty.” Shearer’s innovative, highly-textured guitar style has taken him around the world to record, tour and collaborate with notable artists that include Dido, Annie Lennox, Joe Cocker, Damien Rice, Michael Bublé and Mylene Farmer.
As a solo artist, Shearer has released three ambient albums, “Morning Loops,” “A:tifækts” and “Hours.” Through the manipulation of the electric guitar tuned to 432 hertz, these works utilize the removal of popular song structures to create hypnotic soundscapes that experiment with the somatic effects of vibration. Shearer’s deep connection to sound and its effect on our emotional and physical states of being have led him to explore the intersections of sound and light in his current collaboration, Chromasonic.
