Sound Artist | Composer | Sound Engineer

Christian Carrière

Christian Carrière is a sound artist and musician based in Montreal, Canada. His work lives in the dreamy grey zone between sound design, soundscape and music. In recent years, his practice has largely been driven by the ‘no-input console’ as his main instrument and sound source. He also has a fascination with audio collage and semantic mash-ups, which come into play in the conceptual, gallery and museum-based work he contributes to. He has released several albums, scored a few independent films and created sound installations for gallery and museum projects. His works have been broadcast on CBC, BBC3, Radio-Canada and a number of community stations in Canada, the US and the UK. He has performed at Mutek festival (2016, 2018), at Suoni per il popolo festival and in various venues in Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa as a solo performer. In 2018, he created the Loupe de loop concert series, which features musicians from different genres who all use audio looping in one form or another as part of their process. Present and past collaborators include microtonal improvisation duet Quolibet, shadow puppeteers Mere Phantoms, experimental band Interceiving, artist collective CRUM (Centre de recherche urbaine de Montréal), artist Douglas Scholes, and field recording collective Lanark Land Art Recording Group.
