Dr. Alexandre Lehmann

Alexandre Lehmann (M.Eng, M.Sc., Ph.D.) is a cognitive neuroscientist, associate professor at McGill University Faculty of Medicine and adjunct professor at Université de Montréal Psychology department.

He received a PhD from Pierre & Marie Curie University for doctoral work conducted at College de France and Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics. He is a principal member of the International Laboratory for Brain, Music and Sound Research (BRAMS), a full member of the Center for Research on Brain, Language & Music (CRBLM) and an associate member of the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on Music, Media and Technology (CIRMMT).

His research focuses on cognitive auditory neuroscience; using neuro-imaging and virtual reality to investigate the plasticity and sensory-motor integration of audition. Some of his topics of interests are music cognition, the therapeutic effect of music, rhythmic entrainment, and consciousness. Over the past 15 years he has been advising media and non-profits on psychedelic science.

He is interested in combining recent theoretical and technological advances, such as neuro-phenomenology and mobile brain imaging, to study real-world situations such as collective dancing, chanting or drumming.
